Final harvest
Sunday, November 2nd, 2008I started late in the season in growing tomato. As the weather getting rainier, this past Sunday, I finally decided to winterize the garden and harvest this year’s last batch of tomatoes.
Hanging on the vine were about 20 tomatoes. Few of them had turned red. I was utterly disappointed to find big slug already munching on those red ones.
After picking up all the tomatoes, I went on chopping down rest of the plants. The tomato vines have grown into a jungle like mess over the period of several months. Gardening in rain and windy condition is not what I call fun time. My fear of slugs was constantly haunting me. Whenever I spotted a piece of rotten leaf or something resemblance of the slimy mollusk, I went “eek”!
Lesson to learn about growing tomato is to pick them before the raining season. The satisfactory of picking ripped red tomatoes straight from the vine is nice. But waited for too long, then it’s risking them damn slugs one step ahead getting to the tomatoes.
