This year I stick with the safe plants and had many harvesting months, rotating between peas, strawberries, basils, and tomatoes.

The herbal planter was the last thing I added to my container garden. As usual, the herbs did well with little care.

I tried a delightful summer soup recipe using mints that was overgrowing in the garden. I do love to cook with things I grow out of my garden.

tomatoes

After last year’s success in growing basils, chives, cilantro, peppers, and several potted herbs, this year I wanted to try something different and a bit more challenging, like tomatoes. My green thumb friend Tab gave me three varieties of tomato plants to play around.

The pots I planted the plants were kind of small, I was concerned they might not provide enough nutrition for the plants to produce fruits. Also during springtime, the plants were nearly drowned by the heavy rain due to my ignorance to the plants’ water takes. All and all, I didn’t expect to get any tomato.

That’s why when I first discovered tiny green lumps hidden behind leaves, I didn’t immediately associate those were baby tomatoes. But look at them grow! This one is as big as the tomatoes they sell in the grocery store.

I wonder when it’s going to turn red. I can’t wait to eat my home grown tomatoes.

allium

The Allium Rosenbachianum bulbs I planted last fall are now in full bloom. I didn’t think they were going to do well when slugs chewed the leaves up just last month. Looks like they are going to be just fine.

ant

This afternoon was sunny and warm, the kind of weather perfect for gardening. I planted the 3 tomato plants Tab gave me last week. Another new addition to ktula’s backyard is a good number of ants. They don’t seem to be harmful to plants. But their sheer gigantic size alone is quite an eye sore.

flytrap plants

In January when I came back from 3-week vacation, my poor carnivorous plants looked pretty dead from lack of proper care. There was nothing but one little leave of a flypaper plant survived the traumatic vacation disaster.

I didn’t have much hope for this little dude. Still I thought I’d give it some water as long as it’s still alive. Overtime there were spikes of greens poking out of the dirt. White flowers were blooming from flypaper traps plants. Even the more fragile snap traps plants were back from the dead.

My flytrap plant colony is back in the tiny 10” by 10” glass container. Thanks to my amazing green thumb…. Ok fine, it’s the dark magic of regular watering.

plantMy Clematis is flowering again! It bloomed few months ago but dang it’s blooming again. And such pretty pink!!

The alien-looking “Hens & Chicks” also in full bloom of these exotic looking flower colonies. Even my ground cover mints are coming out with tons of tiny purple flower!!

Put your hands in the air and say “yea~”
